The Live Aware Desktop Recorder allows you to easily capture gameplay from consoles like Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch 2 by using an external capture device. This guide outlines how to set up your capture device and record your console gameplay for analysis in Live Aware.
Recommended Capture Devices
To capture console gameplay, you will need a capture device. Live Aware recommends the following:
Elgato Game Capture Series (HD60 X, 4K X, 4K Pro)
AverMedia Live Gamer Series (Extreme 3, Ultra S, Ultra 2.1, Ultra HD, 4K)

Setting up Your Capture Device
Follow the instructions provided with your manufacturer's capture device to connect your console to the capture card and then to your computer. Generally, the setup involves:
Install software and drivers provided by the capture device manufacturer.
Connect your console to the HDMI In port on the capture card.
Connect the HDMI Out port on the capture device to your display (TV or monitor).
Connect the capture card to your computer via a USB cable.
Capturing Console Gameplay
Once your capture device is set up and recognized by your computer, you can use the Live Aware Desktop Recorder to capture your console gameplay.
Launch the provided capture device utility software.
Launch the Live Aware Desktop Recorder.
Log in to the Desktop Recorder.
Select the desired event you wish to stream to, or create a new event.
Under the "Video" section, select the provided capture utility as the video source. For example, for Elgato devices this will appear as "4K Capture Utility".
Select your microphone and desired audio source under the "Audio" section. This could be exclusively your console's audio through the capture utility, or all combined audio output (System Audio).
(Optional) Click Advanced settings to adjust video quality, audio quality, and other options.
Click Go Live to begin livestreaming your console gameplay, or switch to Local Recording mode and click Record to save the video to your computer.
Your console gameplay will now be streamed or recorded and uploaded through the Live Aware Desktop Recorder into your Live Aware workspace.
