Optimizing Performance
Updated over 3 weeks ago

While the majority of users enjoy a smooth experience, a small percentage may encounter performance or capture issues. This guide provides troubleshooting steps and advanced settings adjustments to optimize the application's performance.

If you experience issues such as lag, dropped frames, or poor video quality, follow these steps:

Adjust Process Priority

The application’s performance can be improved by increasing its process priority. To do this:

  1. Open the Live Aware Desktop Recorder.

  2. Click Advanced Settings.

  3. Locate the Process Priority option.

  4. Set it to High.

  5. Click Done.

This adjustment allocates more system resources to the application, reducing the chances of performance issues.

Disable Hardware-Accelerated GPU Scheduling

Hardware-Accelerated GPU Scheduling is a Windows feature that, in some cases, may conflict with the Live Aware Desktop Recorder’s performance. Disabling this feature can improve compatibility and stability.

  1. Press Windows + I to open the Settings app.

  2. Navigate to System > Display.

  3. Scroll down and click on Graphics settings (under the "Related settings" section).

  4. Look for the Hardware-accelerated GPU scheduling toggle under Advanced graphics settings.

  5. If enabled, turn it Off.

  6. Restart your computer to apply the changes.

Optimize Video Capture Bitrate

Available bandwidth can affect recording quality, especially if the bitrate is too high for your system’s resources or available bandwidth. Adjusting the video capture bitrate can help mitigate these issues.

  1. Open the Live Aware Desktop Recorder.

  2. Click Advanced Settings.

  3. Find the Bitrate dropdown under Video Options.

  4. Lower the bitrate if you are experiencing performance issues. Suggested starting points:

    • 4 Mbps for low-performance systems.

    • 8 Mbps for mid-range systems.

    • 12 Mbps or higher for high-performance systems.

  5. Save the changes and test the recording performance.

Additional Tips

  • Close unnecessary applications: Free up system resources by closing programs running in the background.

  • Update your drivers: Ensure your graphics card and audio drivers are up to date for optimal compatibility.

  • Monitor system performance: Use the Task Manager (Ctrl + Shift + Esc) to identify any processes consuming excessive CPU or GPU resources.

By following these steps, you can optimize the Live Aware Desktop Recorder to ensure a smooth recording experience. If issues persist, consider reaching out to our support team for further assistance.
